Viral Microdrama Rags 2 Richmond is stepping onto a bigger stage.
Following its inaugural market screening at the Toronto International Film Festival this month, the Richmond, B.C.-set musical comedy is offering a first glimpse at itsfeature-length debut, exclusively on Rolling Stone Canada.
Set in 2005, the film follows Nathan, an aspiring singer who enters an Asian male beauty pageant hoping it might offer his way into show business, pulling him into a world of competition, performance and pop ambition. EXCLUSIVE: Vanessa Hudgens (Bad Boys: Ride or Die) has wrapped production in Vancouver, British Columbia on Quiet Storm, a dramatic thriller marking the directorial debut of Anthony Thorne, who also penned the script.
Exploring themes from the ’60s such as women’s liberation and the Black Power movement, the film takes place in the summer of 1969, as the infamous Hurricane Camille marks its tragic landfall. Hudgens plays a romance novelist trapped indoors during the storm as she struggles to cope with the reality of an ever-changing world.

The film also introduces Affleck’s son Atticus (who features in the opening footage of the clip above) for the first time on screen and marks the second feature for his son Indiana.

Viral Nation and Media Trifecta have teamed up to develop an unscripted competition series built around Octagon Metatainment‘s “Rags 2 Richmond” franchise.
Buyers will get their first look at the series at the Access Canada Summit, held as part of the Toronto Film Festival’s inaugural market.
The series translates the world of Asian male pageantry into a rags-to-riches competition format. Contestants face challenges built around performance, style, talent and showmanship as they transform their look and image, before a live pageant finale crowns a winner.
